The goal
Create a small physical control pad for studying on my iPad. The idea is to put a useful set of repeat actions within easy reach, with a layout chosen around how I actually study.
Current focus
I have started Mico, and the project is in progress. I am exploring which study actions deserve dedicated controls, how the pad will connect to the iPad, and what hardware and firmware best support those choices.
Next milestone
Build a working prototype and try it during real study sessions. The first version should help me evaluate whether the chosen controls are useful before refining the enclosure or expanding the feature set.
Study workflow
The starting point is the study routine itself: identify actions I repeat, then decide which ones would benefit from a physical key. The control assignments will depend on the iPad apps and shortcuts that actually support them. Specific mappings will be documented once they are chosen and tested.
Hardware decisions
Key count, controller, enclosure, and connection method are still open. The goal is a compact device that fits alongside the iPad and is comfortable to use at a desk. Compatibility with the intended iPad workflow needs to be checked before those choices are treated as final.
Concept and prototype
The current artwork explores a dark enclosure, six light keycaps, and a rotary knob. It is a concept visualization, not a photograph of completed hardware or a finalized specification. The prototype may change as the study controls, available parts, and connection approach are worked out.
Current status
Mico has started and is in progress. I am working through the study controls, hardware, and connection approach.
